What is Sun Metro Rising?
Sun Metro Rising is a systemwide initiative to improve and modernize Sun Metro’s public transportation service. It includes changes to routes, service times, and connections, based on public input and data analysis.
Why are these changes happening?
These changes aim to improve reliability, increase access to jobs and services, and make the transit system more efficient and responsive to community needs.
When will the changes go into effect?
Specific implementation dates will be announced soon. The current focus is on community outreach events aimed at educating and guiding riders on upcoming route changes, while also addressing riders’ questions and concerns.
What is microtransit?
Microtransit is an on-demand stop-to-stop service using smaller electric vehicles (EV). This service will be provided only in District 5. This can be scheduled on the mobile app system or by phone (to be implemented when Sun Metro Rising goes into effect).
What are the pop-up events shown on the flyer/poster?
These are in-person pop-up events held at all transit centers where community members can learn more about the upcoming changes, ask questions, and give feedback.
Where can I attend a pop-up event?
Pop-up events are scheduled at various transit centers from October 6–10. Refer to the flyer or visit the Sun Metro Rising Page for exact times and locations.
Do I need to register to attend?
No registration is required. Just show up at the scheduled time.
Where can riders learn more about the proposed changes?
Visit the Sun Metro Rising Page. You'll find maps, draft plans, and updates on future meetings.
Is information available in Spanish?
Yes. The event materials are available in both English and Spanish to ensure accessibility for all riders. Translation is available on the website.
Are the changes final?
Yes. But, we are still taking input from the community in the outreach phase.
When will changes start?
No start date has been announced yet, but it is tentative Summer 2026. Final route changes will be shared in early 2026.
What phase are we in?
We are in the community engagement phase. October 2025 events are part of that.
Will my route or stop be eliminated?
Some routes and stops will be changed, merged, or discontinued. The Outreach Team will be at the transit centers with the future route’s maps. We encourage riders to check the proposal in-person and speak to staff at a pop-up event.
Will the fare change?
There are no changes to fare structure at this time. All fares will be the same, and there are no plans in the future to change the fares.
Will this affect paratransit or LIFT services?
Paratransit service coverage will not be affected by these changes.
