Sun Metro Citizens Advisory Committee (SMCAC)
The purpose of the Sun Metro Citizens Advisory Committee is to advise the Mass Transit Department Board on matters over which the Board has authority. The Committee, originally named the “Citizen’s Advisory Committee,” was created by a resolution of the Board in 1988, and adopted its current name in 2022. In keeping with its purpose, the SMCAC adopted a vision statement for the Committee in 2026:
The Sun Metro Citizens Advisory Committee advocates for accountable, accessible, and strategically sustainable transit services to meet the transportation needs of our community. Committee meetings provide the public an opportunity to receive updates on transit items from Sun Metro staff and to share their experiences with Sun Metro services, to recommend enhancements, and to give positive feedback.
Sun Metro welcomes transit customers to share their experience and opinion on transit matters at committee meetings. Public comment is allowed for at every meeting, provided those wishing to address the Committee sign up to speak with the Scribe prior to the start of a committee meeting.
