Dump the Pump

Gas tank in garbage can

Created by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the third Thursday in June is known as Dump the Pump Day. It is a day that encourages people to ride public transportation and save money, instead of driving a car. Started in June 2006 when gas prices were at record highs, this national day emphasizes that public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money. Individuals can save more than $13,000 per year by using public transit instead of driving, according to the latest information on public transit fares, auto costs, and gasoline prices.*

Sun Metro promotes Dump the Pump Day through different activities that help spread the word about the many benefits of using public transit, including saving money!

Find out how much you can save by taking public transportation instead of driving by using this fuel savings calculator.
